Silence is Golden

I live in a fairly middle-class village or subdivision and when we first moved here, I was amazed at how silent the whole place was. The homeowners' association was strict in implementing their rules, including of course the rule to observe silence. This means that no one is allowed to play loud music unless there is a party. If there's a party, the homeowner must first get a permit.

But lately there is a certain fellow that has this penchant for videokes and he has started to rouse the anger of his neighbors. We don't live near his place but we do pass by it every day. Even at night he would belch out songs from his videoke machine. He has a good voice, I give him that, but the village is not the right place to showcase his talent.

I've heard this is a petition going on to file a formal complaint against him.

Say 'Thank You' Always

I have noticed that most people are not saying 'Thank You' when it is properly due.

When riding the jeepney and someone helped you out by taking your fare and giving it to the driver, the ideal thing to say is 'thank you'. But no, I seldom here those words in such a situation.

'Thank you' is a very important word that should be religiously said by everybody. I am sure that not a day passes by without a need to say those words.

Rowan Atkinson Is a Genius

That's right. I honestly believe that because only a genius can come up and portray such a funny and weird character as Mr. Bean.

It's just like watching Charlie Chaplin but a more modern type. And we all know that Chaplin was a legend and of course, a genius.

Just watching Mr. Bean walk down a hall is already funny. That is why we always anticipate every next scene as complete hilarious... and it always was.

Now the cartoon version, that one I don't really like much. Maybe because I'm already too old for to watch cartoons? I'm not really sure but for m
e it doesn't completely get the essence of the live action Mr. Bean.

I Have to Learn to Eat Vegetables

I chose the word learn here because that's what would best describe my current take on vegetables. I hate it! Well, I only hate vegetables when it's the main course. I'm a meat-eater. Always been and always will be. I could never see myself as a vegetarian.

My most hated vegetable of all is the okra. I don't like it's phlegm-like consistency. Whenever there's a dish that has okra, I really take the time to sort it out. I remove every bit and trace of that vegetable before I would even attempt to take a bite.

But my most loved vegetable of all is the potato. I can eat any dish with potato, granted that there are lots and lots of potatoes in it.

How about you? What are your most hated and loved vegetable?

Why Do Japanese Live Longer?

Is it because of their diet? Is it the sake that they drink or the raw fish that they eat? Is it simply in their genes or is their land really sacred that's why the people are gifted with longer life?

I'm not really dealing with this subject on a deeper scale, I was just wondering why there are so many old people in Japan with ages that go over 100. And it's not that they are simply old, but their minds are still very lucid. It seems like it was just their bodies that have aged.

But to be frank, I don't think I would like to grow that old. I mean, to live more than a hundred years old is not something that I dream about. For me, it's not how long we lived, but it is the quality of the life we lived.

Sounds so philosophical, isn't it? Not really it just makes sense to me. Why would I want to live very long when I could just simply pass away after accomplishing all the things that I needed to do. It may sound morbid but for me, it's far from it.

Talking With Strangers

As a child we were thought to never ever talk to strangers. But as we grow older it is harder to follow that rule. Because how can we not avoid talking to people we don't know when we are constantly going outside either for work or leisure and keep on bumping to new faces.

Well, that rule only applies to kids because kids are very gullible and can easily be duped by malicious people. But aren't we (adults) gullible, too? I guess it all boils down to keeping it safe when dealing with strangers.

So should we talk to strangers? By all means! It is one of the most wonderful ways to gain new friends. If you are sitting in the bus, talk to the person sitting right next to you. Open up a conversation. The weather is a good ice breaker.
